When I went to the Saint Louis art museum I looked around and nothing was speaking to me. I looked at all in all sorts of different blushering from the portraits of old royalty, to the more abstract. thence on the third floor I came upon a word- keystoneing that was in three different sections and taking up a hale wall. It is called January, December, November by Gerhard Richter. Each canvas was around twelve to 15 feet tall and ab step up eight to ten feet wide. Each canvas was cover in oil paint. The paintings to me looked comparable they were crying because the paint tallymed to drip down the whole canvas. I looked at the painting for a good twenty to thirty minutes. I make up my own story to the painting, then went and read the teensy side note with the title and artist name. from the description I learned that the way he was able to get the paint to look controlled but yet still random was by going layer after layer and using a squeegee and dragging the paint down across the canvas. He mainly used black and washcloth. There was still whatsoever reds, yellows, blues and greens thrown in. before finding out that the title was January, December, November I was looking at the paintings and saw how they could portray the progression of life.
In the first painting is mostly white for the first three quarters with color splotches all over. That to me was like child hood, bring and fun with few dark vagabond in a childs mind. Children tend to see the positive in life and just have fun. Then it leads into black for the last quarter of the first painting. I interpreted this part as pre-teen. When you innocence starts to leave you and you start seeing the world the way it really is, a darker place. There be still spots of color throughout the black which argon the bright moments you have with friends or family. As the second initiation starts it is mostly black with color spots.
