This short story is write in third person point of view. We see end-to-end the story this is story is told as a spectator. He/she was not involved with the events going on in this story. Nowhere in this story do we see Delia or Sykes telling the story. In section two of the story we get the story of the crossroads men. This uninvolvment gives us an unbiased view. Imagine if Sykes was telling the story. I conceive of we would not get the idea that Delia does all the work, while Sykes plays. Or the other way around. We might have gotten a miniscule exaggeration of how much Sykes plays, and Delia works. In this point of view, we get the idea that Delia is the only one who controls what happens to Delia.
The notion of control leads us to plot. This story is broken down into three sections. In all the sections, we pot see that Delia is working, and Sykes is doing whatever. In section one, the story opens up with Delia working.

And also at the turning point of the story, where she is folding clothes, and the snake is on the bed. At the end of the Delia survives and Sykes is gone. So why does Delia work so hard?
