Krebs, the main temper in Soldiers Home, has returned home from World War I in 1919 after serving for two years.  He enlisted in the Marines in 1917 and did not return to the United States until the help division returned from the Rhine in the summer of 1919 (Hemingway).  The struggle that Krebs faced was that he was not a part of the first group of soldiers to mother home from the war.  Instead, he was in the second group.  Most of the post-war festivities were everyplace by the time Krebs had arrived at home.  When a soldier returns home, it is central for them to receive a warm welcome butt home and much delay for their service.

 Krebs did not receive much appreciation or a good welcome when he arrived back in the United States.   Krebs has a hard time decision anybody to listen to his stories from the war.  The main reason for this is because people had already hear enough gruesome stories from soldiers that had returned before Krebs.  Krebs found that to be listened to at all he had to lie, and after he had done this in two ways he, too had a reaction against the war and against talking about it (Hemingway).  He went as far as lying to raise up people to listen to him, but even that did not spring for him.  After a soldier returns from war, depression can look to in.  They can get out this depression by sex act stories to others.  If there is nobody to listen to these stories then...
