Since its source in 1891, the State Normal and Industrial School, now the University of wedlock Carolina at Greensboro, has incurred a rich and ever-changing biography. One that was vigorous documented and retold by Virginia Lathrop in her book Bricks and People. As did the university itself, Virginias retelling and description of the institutions history changed considerably from when she origin wrote her book to when it was, many years later, edited and published as a finished work. In point, the names or happenings of accepted pivotal figures and locations, well known to the university but not in fact relevant to the general public of recent times, were any left unsaid or altered to fit the up-to-the-minute generation. May it be because of drastic political and worldly events occurring at the time, or waves of feminism and idealistic practices surging the nation. Potentially, she could have moreover seen the publication of her book as just a put on the line to refine the logos of her writings in order to magical spell to a a good deal changed and more nationally widespread audience.
Personally, i feel that she altered her writings so that she could more easy connect with the current people of the nation, who might not be as concerned with the distinct figures she had first described in great detail, thus allowing her final product to be much more easily accepted by her audience as a source of information and an outlook on the history of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
One of the main points that was changed between her writings and the final work ended up being that hefty undertones of feminism were made apparent in the finished work. In her first writings, she spoke highly of not only the women winding in making the high rise dormitories what they are, but similarly of the men.
