In the scene where Harvey fault interrogates a soldier in a dark, hunting place for he had thought that the soldier had attempted to shoot and kill him, (1:03 into the film), the director of The ugliness entitle, Christopher Nolan, uses brass lighting and symbolism to portray the fact that Harvey Dent has 2 aspects to him and the foreshadowing of two await. The light macrocosm sh bingle on one side of his face represents the good side of Harvey, the mayor cleaning up the streets of Gotham. Whereas the dark side of Harveys face shaded from the light, illustrates the alter ego of the white knight, the adult male seeking revenge, a man who puts the outcome of life story and stopping point to a coin toss. This same side lighting is also used on Batman, the bright side of him showing his thoughts to be the hero of Gotham and the dark side of Batman portraying that he is considering parsimony himself instead. It is controversial that the heroes in the film have alter egos to them, as shown by the lighting, and the villain in the film, the joker, almost always has his face fully lit. This coin symbolizes the change of Harvey Dent becoming two face. Harvey, at first has a coin which only has one outcome, he is living a more safe life, alone once he is affected by an explosion, one side of his face burnt off, as does one side of his coin.



Harvey, straight off two face, starts to become a risk taker, endangering his friends lifes, and his own. This coin is damaged on one side from the flames, devising there two possibly results now. Two face lives dangerously, victimisation this coin, knowing that there is a chance that the consequence may be for the worst. This is important to the narrative because it shows the conflict in the Dark Knight, order vs. chaos, linking to the Levi Strauss theory. Order being the justice clay and chaos being the helter skelter in the streets of Gotham. This is similar to the film V for Vendetta where the citizens of future England are conflicted with the government.
